Adult BJJ for Marion Residents

You don't need experience. You don't need to be in shape. You just need to walk through the door. Our adult classes follow the proven Gracie Barra curriculum, taught by Professor Edgar — a black belt with 15 years of mat time under Master Roberto 'Tussa' Alencar. Morning or evening, first day or hundredth — every class meets you where you are.

Marion adults who already drive into Cibolo, Seguin, or New Braunfels for everything beyond H-E-B have a Mon/Wed/Fri 6:30 PM and Saturday 10 AM adult class waiting fourteen minutes west. The Gracie Barra GB1 fundamentals progression assumes no athletic background and walks beginners through a structured belt and stripe system. Live training rounds give experienced grapplers — including former Marion High wrestlers — a real game to develop. Professor Edgar leads every adult session himself, and the rural-pace, low-ego culture of the gym fits the Marion temperament naturally. First class is free. Call (830) 205-3222 to schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have no martial arts experience — can I start adult BJJ?
Yes. The majority of adults who start at Gracie Barra Cibolo have zero experience. The GB1 Fundamentals class is designed specifically for that. Professor Edgar breaks down every technique into clear steps, and you train with partners who know how to work with beginners. Nobody expects you to know anything on day one — that is what the curriculum is for.
How often should I train as a beginner?
Two to three sessions per week is a strong starting point. Gracie Barra Cibolo offers adult classes throughout the week — mornings, midday, and evenings — so you have options. Consistency matters more than volume. Training twice a week and showing up every week will produce better results than training five days one week and disappearing the next. Professor Edgar can help you plan a schedule that fits your life.
Is there a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school near Marion, TX?
Marion has no dedicated BJJ or martial arts academy, so families drive to Cibolo, Seguin, or New Braunfels. Gracie Barra Cibolo is 14 minutes west on FM 78 — a straight shot through rural Guadalupe County to 2251 FM 1103 Suite 106 in Cibolo Valley Square. Parents from the Marion High School and Krueger Elementary feeder zones train their kids here because there's no closer option, and adults from the Green Valley Park area work into our Mon/Wed/Fri 6:30 PM classes. First class is free, no contract. Call (830) 205-3222.
Do you have homeschool classes for Marion families?
Yes. Gracie Barra Cibolo runs dedicated homeschool BJJ classes every Monday and Wednesday at 10 AM, ages 3 through 13 in a combined session — 14 minutes from Marion via FM 78. The Gracie Barra curriculum is a structured 16-week block plan with belts and stripes, which Texas homeschool parents log as physical education. Siblings train together so you make one trip instead of two, and Professor Edgar leads every class personally. Several Marion homeschool families already attend regularly. Bring athletic clothes for the free trial — no gi required to start.
