Adult BJJ for New Braunfels Residents

You don't need experience. You don't need to be in shape. You just need to walk through the door. Our adult classes follow the proven Gracie Barra curriculum, taught by Professor Edgar — a black belt with 15 years of mat time under Master Roberto 'Tussa' Alencar. Morning or evening, first day or hundredth — every class meets you where you are.

New Braunfels adults who specifically want the Gracie Barra system — not a kickboxing-led or Muay Thai-led grappling program — have a Mon/Wed/Fri 6:30 PM and Saturday 10 AM adult class twenty-two minutes south on I-35. The GB1 fundamentals progression takes complete beginners through a structured belt and stripe system; live training rounds give experienced grapplers from Vintage Oaks or Gruene a real game to develop. Professor Edgar leads every adult session himself, and the GB-network belt rank you earn at GB Cibolo transfers to any of 1,000+ academies worldwide — a real edge for travel-heavy NB professionals. First class is free.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have no martial arts experience — can I start adult BJJ?
Yes. The majority of adults who start at Gracie Barra Cibolo have zero experience. The GB1 Fundamentals class is designed specifically for that. Professor Edgar breaks down every technique into clear steps, and you train with partners who know how to work with beginners. Nobody expects you to know anything on day one — that is what the curriculum is for.
How often should I train as a beginner?
Two to three sessions per week is a strong starting point. Gracie Barra Cibolo offers adult classes throughout the week — mornings, midday, and evenings — so you have options. Consistency matters more than volume. Training twice a week and showing up every week will produce better results than training five days one week and disappearing the next. Professor Edgar can help you plan a schedule that fits your life.
Is there a Gracie Barra in New Braunfels, TX?
New Braunfels does not currently have a Gracie Barra academy. Gracie Barra Cibolo is the closest GB-branded school for the south side of New Braunfels — 22 minutes south on I-35 to 2251 FM 1103 Suite 106 in Cibolo Valley Square. New Braunfels has Braunfels Martial Arts (BJJ plus kickboxing) and SBG New Braunfels (Muay Thai-focused), but if you specifically want the standardized Gracie Barra curriculum and Tussa Alencar lineage, we're the nearest fit. Families from Vintage Oaks and River Bend already train with us. Call (830) 205-3222.
Can an adult start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in their 30s or 40s near New Braunfels?
Yes — most of our adults at Gracie Barra Cibolo started after 30. The 22-minute drive south on I-35 from New Braunfels is a fair commute, and the GB1 fundamentals class is built for first-day beginners, not athletes. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is technique- and timing-based, so it rewards patience and consistency over raw strength. Professor Edgar is a 1st-degree black belt with 15 years of teaching adult beginners, and the schedule (Mon/Wed/Fri 6:30 PM, Sat 10 AM) fits professionals commuting from Landa Park Estates or the Gruene area. First class is free.
